In the cabinets down stairs we displayed the creations of the craft workshops.
In the listening station we had looped audio stories that people could sit down and listen to. They were collected by our story collectors roving around the city during the month.
On the walls we transcribed some of the longer stories with a typewriter, overlaying the stories with old copies of Melways.
It's amazing to compare the vibrant final map with the blank canvas we started with. Thank you Melbourne for sharing so many stories!
Melbourne Futures (or iMap Collective) are a group of artists who have come together around shared interests in mapping and documenting the spaces that we live in through community engagement. We formed in 2008 and have collaborated on a number of projects which rely on public participation. We are currently relaxing after a huge month in the City Library. Thank you Melbourne for sharing so many stories! Next we plan to collate a zine of the stories that we collected over the month... Watch this space. We are always looking for people to be involved on any level, so please drop us a line at anytime if you are interested.
Michael Chew, Catherine Evans, Beck Meyers, Rachel Meyers and Megan Richards.
